The axial clearance of the camshaft is too large, and the fixed nut of the timing gear is loose, resulting in axial translocation of the gear or damage of gear teeth. Timing chain destruction

1. Remove the upper cover of the camshaft timing chain. 2. Use a tool to remove the control valve bolts (left-hand thread) in the direction shown by the arrow in the figure. 3.Just as shown, unscrew the bolts on the bearing bridge and remove the bearing bridge. 4. Turn the pulley/shock absorber to top dead center position with the retaining bracket. At this time, the notch of the shock absorber must be aligned with the arrow mark on the lower cover of the timing chain, and the camshaft timing mark 1 must point upward. 5. Remove the timing chain lower cover. 6. Press in the oil pump chain tensioner in the direction indicated by the arrow and lock it with positioning pin 2, remove the oil pump chain tensioner 1, and take off the oil pump drive chain. 7. Insert a scribe or a suitable screwdriver into the hole of the chain tensioner in the direction indicated by arrow 1 to raise the locking lever of the timing chain tensioner. Press in the tensioner arm in the direction indicated by the arrow 2 and fix it with the positioning pin 3. 8. Remove the tensioner arm and camshaft timing chain guide, and remove the camshaft timing chain. 9. As shown, remove the chain tensioner 1, tensioner arm 2, guide rails 3 and 4 of the balance shaft timing chain, and remove the balance shaft timing chain.

Dual VVT-i ◆ The VVT-i system only controls and adjusts the timing of the intake valve, while the dual VVT-i system controls and adjusts both the intake and exhaust valves. Relatively speaking, the dual VVT-i system can make the engine run more efficiently. ◆ The dual VVT-i system of Toyota Corolla can control the intake system and exhaust system of the engine separately. During rapid acceleration, the VVT-i that controls the intake will advance the intake, while the VVT-i that controls the exhaust will delay the exhaust. This effect is like a smaller turbocharger, which can effectively increase the engine power. At the same time, due to the increase of the intake air volume, the combustion of gasoline is more complete and the purpose of low emission is achieved. ◆ The engine ECU calculates an optimal valve timing according to the engine speed, intake air volume, throttle position and water temperature, and sends control instructions to the camshaft timing oil control valve. The camshaft timing oil control valve selects different oil circuits to the VVT-i controller according to the commands sent out, so that it is in advance, lag or maintain three different working states. In addition, the engine ECU detects the actual valve timing based on the signals from the camshaft and crankshaft position sensors to perform feedback control as much as possible so as to obtain the predetermined variable valve timing.
